Workshop Description:
Do you love to take photographs?
Do you ever feel that when you take a photograph that it doesn't
really express what your experience was?
Are you unsure what to photograph?
Do you feel that your photos look like postcard images you saw somewhere?
This course presents ways to experience the visual world directly
without the filters of ideas such as: what is a good photograph, what we like or don't like, thoughts such as 'I remember the last time I saw this, it reminds me of something, I know what it means, I don't
like it, I do like it, it's so beautiful, it's so ugly, it's is a good thing, it's a bad thing' and on and on. All these ideas and concepts stand between us and direct visual perception, which is fresh, alive, in the moment. We all have the innate ability to experience wakeful
moments in which we connect with the world as it is, appreciate what we see, and photograph exactly what we have appreciated.
This introductory course, Opening the Good Eye, works through
exercises, photographic assignments, and discussion to develop the ability to be fully penetrated by the visual world without our
conceptual baggage holding us back and limiting our experience. In Miksang, we learn how to photograph our experience, rather our idea of our experience. Beginning photographers are welcome. Miksang is based on the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and is presented by Miksang teacher,
Helen VInk.
